Boards of Canada - Roygbiv Cover | Nord Drum 3P Sounds Only | + Novation Launchkey Mk3 & SoftStep 2

video upload by Jannis Le Wolff

"๐ŸฅInterested in using those sounds yourself? I just released my first custom sound bank for the Nord Drum 3P, containing the sounds from this video and many others. You can find it here (including previews): https://bsta.rs/515ad0173

You can get 20% off until November 15th by using this Code: THANKYOUENJOY

Also note that all sounds are available as wav files as well, so you can use them even without owning a Nord Drum 3P.

---------

In this video I'm playing Roygbiv from Boards of Canada while only using sounds from the Nord Drum 3P. I used some effects inside my DAW though and also mixed it in the end, applying some EQ and compression.

The whole set is organized in Ableton Live, and I'm also using the Novation Launchkey Mk3 for playing the final synth line and some clip triggering. Intentionally I wanted to play all sounds by "drumming", but the melody had too many variations and notes so it became too complex. As a foot controller I'm using the Keith McMillen Softstep 2. A very fun thing I discovered here was to change the pitch of a pad with a foot controller. This way I could "drum" the bassline, which has 8 different pitches.

I always loved this song and bassline, and I was curious how well it works with the Nord Drum 3P. I really like how the bass sounds in the lower tones, while it gets a little less fat when moving up in terms of the notes you play."

Walking on the Moon (The Police Cover) - Played with the Nord Drum 3P

video upload by Jannis Le Wolff

"In this video I'm playing some electronic cover version of the song "Walking on the Moon" by the Police. The original has - in my opinion - one of the most amazing drum beats of all time, played by the one and only Stewart Copeland, and this is my little tribute to it.

All sounds were created entirely with the Nord Drum 3P, including most reverbs. In mixing I just added a little EQ, a little compression/limiting and one short delay and additional reverb. I tried to do as little as possible, so that the video can also serve as a good example of what kinds of sounds you can create with the Nord Drum 3P."

Vermona Perfourmer Mk2 Plays Grizzly Bear - Sleeping Ute

video upload by Jannis Le Wolff

"In this video I'm playing a little synthesizer cover of the Grizzly Bear song 'Sleeping Ute' with the Vermona Perfourmer Mk2. They've always been one of my favorite bands, with Daniel Rossen also being one of my all-time favorite musicians.

I programmed a sequence that I was sending into the first 3 oscillators, while the 4th one plays the melody. I really like creating those spooky/ghost type sounds with the Perfourmer, although they're quite a pain to mix because they hardly have any good frequency content."

Vermona Perfourmer Mk2 Disco Style - Good Times (Chic Cover) - Synth Disco Music

video upload by Jannis Le Wolff

"๐Ÿ’ƒ In this video I'm playing the song Good Times by Chic with my Vermona Perfourmer Mk2 Analog Synthesizer. The song has always been one of my favorites for combining elements of Disco/Groove and something meditative/soothing at the same time.

The drum part was some discovery for me, since I only had one channel left and was sending a low and a high pitched sound into the channel, using a sine wave. The 16th notes in between are with some very low velocity, just to add some glue to the beat. Together with some keyboard tracking it emulated some type of beat that was really enjoyable to me. I played a lot with the Decay for adding variation to the beat. At the same time I automated some gate, which is activating a send with a reverb only on 2 and 4 for the snare."

Xtal (Aphex Twin Cover) - Played with the Nord Drum 3P

video upload by Jannis Le Wolff

"๐Ÿ‘พ In this video I'm playing Xtal by Aphex Twin with Nord Drum 3P sounds only. I've always loved this song, also for its particular sound design, and this is my little take on it.

The whole arrangement is controlled via Ableton Live, using the KMI Softstep 2 and Novation Launchpad Mini as midi controllers."

This Must Be The Place (Naive Melody) - Talking Heads Cover w/ Vermona Perfourmer Mk2

video upload by Jannis Le Wolff

"In this video I'm playing this great song from Talking Heads, which is a band I deeply connect to. The sequences were created in Ableton Live, where I also added some additional processing during mixing and mastering.

It was a little tricky to find a song from them that fits into the Vermona concept, but I'm This Must Be the Place (Naive Melody) turned out to be really fun!"

Analog vs Software Synth - Blindfold Comparison (Vermona Perfourmer Mk2 vs Ableton Analog)

video upload by Jannis Le Wolff

"In this video I invite you to take a little game. I'm going to play a couple of sounds for you, and you can guess whether it was played by the Vermona Perfourmer Mk2 or Ableton's Analog synthesizer.

Sometimes it's fun to do those tests, although you should always be aware that you're just listening to sounds out of context. I'm mostly curious on your opinion and your reports on how you experienced the sound of the examples.

In the end, I'll share a few more thoughts on the subjects and the examples."

Blue Monday (New Order Cover) played with the Nord Drum 3P (Electric Drum Pad Covers)

video upload by Jannis Le Wolff

"๐Ÿ“˜ In this video I'm playing New Orders legendary song 'Blue Monday' with the Nord Drum 3P. All sounds are created with the internal sound engine of the Nord Drum 3P EXCEPT:

- the bass sound was created with the Arturia Mini V
- the choir sound is the actual 'Blue Monday' sound from Arturia's V-Collection/Analog Lab

For looping I was using Ableton Live and the KMI Softstep 2, and after recording I added little tweaks and colors to the sound during mixing."

Vermona Perfourmer Mk2 Plays Bach - BWV 847 (Bach on Analog Synthesizer)

video upload by Jannis Le Wolff

"๐„ž in this video I'm going to to send Bach's Prelude and Fugue in C Minor from the Well Tempered Clavier through my Vermona Perfourmer Mk2 Analog Synthesizer. It became some highly meditative moment, since the Perfourmer adds a lot of character and personality to the timeless genius of Bach.

The first oscillator is playing the left hand (mostly) while the other 3 oscillators play most of the right hand parts, and sometimes also the polyphony.

I used the midi files from Bernd Krueger @ "http://www.piano-midi.de" (thanks a lot for the work!)"

Pink Moon (Nick Drake Cover) - Vermona Perfourmer Mk2 Ambient Synthesizer Music

video upload by Jannis Le Wolff

"๐ŸŽธ In this instrumental series I'm playing some classics of Rock/Pop music history from the 60s and 70s in some alienated electronic version. In this video it is:

๐—ฃ๐—ถ๐—ป๐—ธ ๐— ๐—ผ๐—ผ๐—ป ๐—ฏ๐˜† ๐—ก๐—ถ๐—ฐ๐—ธ ๐——๐—ฟ๐—ฎ๐—ธ๐—ฒ

I was using the Vermona Perfourmer Mk2, fed with some sequences that I created inside Ableton Live.

The Vermona Perfourmer Mk2 is organized into the following parts:

- Oscillator 1 plays the bass
- Oscillator 2 is playing some mellow ambience line that comes in after the first chorus and has a lot of reverb on it
- Oscillator 3 is playing the melody and I added a little extra distortion (Soundtoys Devil Loc)
- Oscillator 4 plays the line of the piano in the original song"

Chameleon (Herbie Hancock) - Nord Drum 3P + Vermona Perfourmer Mk2 Electronic Drumpad Performance

video upload by Jannis Le Wolff

"๐ŸŽธ In this instrumental series I'm playing some classics of Rock/Pop music history from the 60s and 70s in some alienated electronic version. In this video it's the classic:

CHAMELEON - HERBIE HANCOCK

I pre-programmed the sequences inside Ableton Live, sending them through the individual channels of the Vermona Perfourmer Mk2. I used the KMI SoftStep 2 for moving between scenes and played some grooves live with my Nord Drum 3P.

During Mixing I added some Reverb, EQ and Compression."

How to turn the Arturia Buchla Easel into some Experimental Drum Machine (Sound Design Tutorial)

video upload by Jannis Le Wolff

"In this sound design tutorial I want to dive a little deeper into the sound possibilities of the Arturia Buchla Easel and turn it into some organic, experimental and sometimes a little funny drum machine. First you will see which parameters are important in order to get some different layers of drums going. Then I will also show you how you can effectively midi map some important parameters to a midi controller, so that you can create beats and patterns without having to look at the computer screen.

Don't Stop 'Til You Get Enough (Michael Jackson) - Vermona Perfourmer Mk2 Ambient Synthesizer Music

video upload by Jannis Le Wolff

"๐ŸŽธ In this instrumental series I'm playing some classics of Rock/Pop music history from the 60s and 70s in some alienated electronic version. In this video it's one of my all time favorite songs:

Don't Stop 'Til You Get Enough by Michael Jackson

I was using the Vermona Perfourmer Mk2, fed with some sequences that I created inside Ableton Live.

The Vermona Perfourmer Mk2 is organized into the following parts:

- Oscillator 1 plays the bass
- Oscillator 2 and 3 are receiving some chord arpeggio and the melody at the same time, which leads to some jumpy and unpredictable interplay between those 2 sequences
- Oscillator 4 plays some spooky line, that is soaked into the Eventide Blackhole Reverb

During Mixing I added some Reverb, EQ and also some panning effect for the harmony/melody part."

Making a Prophet Type Synth Pad Sound with Analog in Ableton Live (Sound Design Tutorial)

video upload by Jannis Le Wolff

"In this Ableton Live Sound Design tutorial I'm going to show you you can create a large, open and rich synth pad sound that is inspired by the sound of the legendary Prophet 5 synthesizer by using the synth "Analog".

Of course it is not possible to copy the sound of such a great piece of hardware, but I think it's a great exercise to try getting as close as possible with your own gear, since it really makes you learn the synth and its functionality. From there, you can easily make your own unique sound out of it.

You can also apply the changes to other synthesizers, but the sound can always differ due to the difference in filter and oscillator sound.

๐ŸŽธ In this video I'm running the theme of Pokemon from the Red/Blue edition through my Vermona Perfourmer. I liked the sound so much that I didn't dare to turn any knob. I've played this game like crazy as a kid on my GameBoy Color and feel very nostalgic about the music. And the music is absolutely amazing. So much fantasy and joyfulness- and all of that in 8 Bit!"

๐ŸŽธ In this instrumental series I'm playing some classics of Rock/Pop music history from the 60s and 70s in some alienated electronic version. For this video I was using the Nord Drum 3P, the Arturia V Collection (MiniV + Juno) as well as the KMI Softstep. The whole set is controlled via Ableton Live.

The Drumbeat is factory preset B30 of the Nord Drum 3P, the Bass is some 3 oscillator sound with the Arturia MiniV and the organ is made with the Arturia Juno plugin.

For mixing I just used some gentle EQ and Compression (mostly FabFilter) and also some Soundtoys effects like Decapitator and Echoboy."
